Agricutural Economist ( Cote-d'Ivoire)

WorldVeg seeks to employ an Agricultural Economist based in Côte d’Ivoire. These positions will contribute to a new program aimed at creating an inclusive and competitive vegetable and potato seed sector that provides smallholder farmers with access to affordable, quality seeds of a wide range of adapted varieties. The five-year program will strengthen the capacity of private seed enterprises and increase farmers’ demand for quality seed; strengthen the supply of improved varieties and the conservation of local biodiversity; and create a more efficient regulatory environment for governance of the vegetable and potato seed sector, including coordination and evidence-based decision-making.

The Agricultural Economist will coordinate and oversee work on market intelligence, private sector development, and seed supply chains, and provide M&E support. The person will report to the WorldVeg Senior Agricultural Economist, based in Benin, and to the Country Lead.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program implementation: Implement program activities in close coordination with international partners, focusing on those related to seed market development, sector governance, and seed sector regulation.
  2. Data collection: Lead the implementation of data collection from farmers and other seed sector actors, including seed demand and variety adoption surveys.
  3. Market intelligence: Collect and analyze data on varietal preferences, market segments, and seed supplies including seed trade to characterize the vegetable and potato seed markets.
  4. Impact evaluation: Collect and analyze baseline and endline data to quantify and qualify the program’s impact.
  5. Monitorig, evaluation and learning: Lead the implementation of monitoring, evaluation and learning activities within the program and compile regular country-specific M&E reports.
  6. Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, policy briefs, and communication materials for partners and policymakers.
  7. Perform any other duties necessary for the success of the program as assigned by the supervisor.

 Qualifications and Experience:

?        Master’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a closely related field, with a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in monitoring, evaluation, research, or data management for development programs.

?        Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing MEL systems, including logical frameworks, indicator tracking, data collection tools, data quality assurance, and performance reporting.

?        Strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills, with proficiency in statistical and data management software such as Excel, STATA, R, KoboToolbox, ODK, Power BI, or similar platforms.

?        Experience managing databases, dashboards, and digital data collection systems, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with data protection standards.

?        Proven experience in preparing high-quality technical reports, donor reports, learning products, and presentations based on program monitoring and evaluation findings.

?        Experience supporting impact evaluations, including survey design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings.

?        Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to train and support field staff on MEL tools and reporting requirements.

 The Reward: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with competitive pay and benefits. The position is only open to nationals or permanent residents. The initial appointment for this position is for three years, renewable.
